A tour that shows you much of the Northern India. You experience a train ride, a flight and  have a car and driver for all of Rajasthan.

You get to see Delhi, moving on to Agra by early morning fast train then again by night train to Varanasi, coming back by flight to Delhi where you get picked up by our car and driver and drive straight to Jaipur as the start of your Rajasthan tour.

In Rajasthan you visit Pushkar, Udaipur (city of lakes), Jodhpur, Bikaner (rat temple nearby), Nawalgarh (painted heritage havelis with frescoes) and getting dropped at Delhi.

Day 3

Agra

Agra Sight Seeing

See Taj Mahal, Agra Red Fort, Sikandara, Marble Inlay and carpert making workshops.

Taj Mahal is closed on Friday.

Day 4 & 5

Varanasi

Our car and driver receives you at the Varanasi Railway Station, outside the station holding your name sign.

Varanasi Sight Seeing

Visit the Ghats, take a boat ride on Ganges. Everything is smack in your face in Varanasi.

Day 6 & 7

Jaipur

After some Varanasi sightseeing, drop to Varanasi Airport.

Fly to Delhi. SpiceJet flight SG-119 leaves Varanasi at 16:15 reaching Delhi at 17:30.

Our driver receives you at Delhi airport and drives you to Jaipur. 275 Kms. About 5 hours drive.

Jaipur Sight Seeing

Visit Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, City Palace, Museums, Markets - lot's. Full day.

Jaipur sight seeing is incomplete without the possibility of Elephant Safari / Ride in Jaipur or Camel Ride in Jaipur Safari / Ride cost extra.

Pushkar

Jaipur Pushkar Drive

Leave Jaipur for Pushkar. About 150 Kms approx. 3 hours by car. If you desire, can visit famous sufi shrine of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer enroute.

Pushkar Sight Seeing

Visit the Pushkar Lake, wander around it, have a priest do a ritual for you. Pushkar is a small town.

Visit the only Brahma temple in the world.

Option of camel safari which can be arranged at additonal cost.

Day 9, 10 & 11

Udaipur

Pushkar Udaipur Drive

Leave Pushkar for Udaipur. About 330 Kms drive. Approx. 6 hours.

Udaipur Sight Seeing

Enjoy the city of Lakes. Walk in the Old Bazzar. See all the sights in Udaipur and around. Visit the Monsoon palace.

Day 12

Jodhpur

Udaipur Jodhpur Drive

Drive to Jodhpur from Udaipur. 4 hours. 300 Kms. Stop enroute to see Ranakpur Temple (Jain).

Jodhpur Sight Seeing

Visit the Fort, view the Blue City. Foray into the desert.

Option to do a Village Bishnoi Safari. Costs about Rs. 1600/- for a jeep, for 4 persons.

Bikaner

Leave Jodhpur for Bikaner. 270 Kms, 5 to 6 hours.

Desert Safari. Camel ride. Visit Deshnok, the Karni Mata rat temple. About 30 Kms from Bikaner.

Day 14

Nawalgarh

Bikaner Nawalgarh Drive

Drive from Bikaner to Nawalgarh. About 250 Kms, 4 hours.

Nawalgarh and around sightseeing.

The beautiful Havelis, wall paintings. A huge fort with colourful bazaar and numerous havelis with elaborate architecture makes it an interesting destination. Nawalgarh is rightly referred to as the Open Air Gallery.

Day 15

Delhi

Drive from Nawalgarh to Delhi. About 300 Kms. 6 hours.

Delhi

Delhi or Dilli as called by locals is Capital of India. It is a very large city located on banks of Yamuna. Not even Rome or Cairo can rival Delhi in number of ruins and monuments. It is a unique city, having been established eight times.

 

Delhi is also widely believed to have been the site of Indraprastha, the legendary capital of the Pandavas during the times of the Mahabharata.

 

Delhi is the political, food, culture, music capital of India.

Qutub Minar

World's tallest red stone minaret, its surroundings are an archaeological park. It's height is 72.5 meters. Built in 1192. A world heritage monument site.

 

Humayun's Tomb

1562. Mausoleum of Humauyn, the Mughal Emperor. Many historians believe this to be the precusor to Taj Mahal. A world heritage monument site.

 

Red Fort

1648. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Perhaps the only fort which does not have any protective landscape around indicating the strength of Mughal empire of that time - that they had noone to fear. A world heritage monument site.

 

Lotus Temple

1986. Built by the Bahai faith. Open to all faiths. You feel immense serenity here.

 

Lodhi Gardens

Gardens laid around the tombs of Lodhi Sultanate, which ruled Delhi and much of North India in the 16th Century. These are the major monuments left from this period.

 

Akshardham Temple

2005. It is a large complex with intricate carvings demonstrating that traditional stone sculpting is still alive and kicking in India. Three shows - an imax movie (50 mins.), a boat ride (15 mins.) and a puppet show (35 mins.) showcase the traditional India in an easy way. Cameras, bags are to be deposited at the entry.

Bangla Sahib Gurudwara

1783. A worship place for Sikhs. Join in the kitchen to help with cooking or eat from the langar (food served free)

 

Nizamuddin Shrine

Shrine of the famous sufi saint Nizamuddin. Qawaali - devotional singing on Thursday. Amir Khusro, famous poet buried in the same complex.

 

Connaught Place

1933. Built by British as a large commercial complex. Now it is metro hub. Lot's of restaurants here.

 

India Gate & Presidential House

Built by British to commerote 90,000 soldiers who died for the British. From here, travel on the wide avenue to the grand Presidential palace.

 

National Museum

Near India Gate, it house beautiful artefacts of yester years. It has an audio guide tour.

Gandhi Museum

Life and times of Mahatama Gandhi on display here.

 

Toilets Museum

In Dwarka, it is an interesting visit. It reveals to us what is not easily revealed else where. A little out of way but worth it.

Agra

Agra

Agra is a city situated on the river Yamuna. Largely known for its Mughal rule (1526-1658), Agra finds mention in the great Indian epic Mahabharat where it is called Agrevana or 'the border of the forest'. 

 

History records Sultan Sikandar Lodi, ruler of Delhi sultantate as founder of the Agra in 1504. It is home to the famous monuments of Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Sikandara with Fatehpur Sikri about 45 Kms away. Other places of interest are I'timad-Ud-Daulah, Swami Bagh Samadhi, Chini ka Rauza, Mehtab Bagh.

 

The golden age of the city began with the Mughals. It was known then as Akbarabad and remained the capital of the Mughal Empire under the Emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

Taj Mahal

 

Agra's Taj Mahal is one of the most famous buildings in the world, the mausoleum of Shah Jahan's favorite wife,

 Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the New Seven Wonders of the world, and one of three World Heritage Sites in Agra. Completed in 1653 

 

Agra Fort

 

The fort was commissioned by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565, and is another of Agra's World Heritage Sites. It is a redstone fort was converted into palace by Shah Jehan. Notable buildings inside fort are Pearl Mosque or Moti Masjid, the Diwan-e-aam and Diwan-e-Khas (halls of public and private audience), Jahangir's Palace, Khas Mahal, Shish Mahal (mirrored palace), and the Musamman Burj. The forbidding exteriors of this fort conceal an inner paradise. This is the fort from where Chhatrapati Shivaji escaped.

 

Fatehpur Sikri

 

The Mughal Emperor Akbar built Fatehpur Sikri about 35 km from Agra, and moved his capital there. Later abandoned due to shortage of water, Akbar moved his headquarters to Agra Fort. It houses the shrine of the sufi saint Saleem Chisti.

Varanasi

Varanasi also known as Kashi and Benares is a very old, very holy city on the river Ganges. Varanasi is characterised by long flights of stone ghats and a pilgrimage for millions of piligrims.

Even today it reeks ancientness. It has been the destination for all luminaries such as Adi Shankracharya, Kabir and many more.

Traditionally many old Indians come to Varanasi and wait for their death. Varanasi is a city in your face. After Varanasi no city has the potential to surprise you. Rest of India shall look tame.

Either your will passionately love Varanasi or be absolutely put off by it. Varanasi thrives on extremes. 

Take the boat ride on Ganges.

Jaipur

The Kachwaha of Amber, Raja Mans Singh (1590-1614) was the chief of the Mughal army and he amassed great wealth and power from his conquests established Jaipur, a powerful regime.

Jaipur is its friendly, hospitable and relaxed people. One experience that all visitors to Pink city must have is a stroll through its colourful bazaars quite in contrast to the innumerable malls and multiplexes coming up virtually  

everywhere revealing why it has become one of the happening cities of India. 

Jaipur is blessed with innumerable attractions from the forts and palaces of Amber, natural riches of its surrounding Aravali range, world class museums, business centres in top end hotels, gems jewellery and handicrafts to exotic cuisine. Indeed there is no place like Jaipur and it is no surprise that it is among India's top most tourist destination.

Amber Fort Complex

One of the most impressive forts of India, it shows its beauty in full splendour as you drive towards it from Jaipur. It is a huge complex of many rooms including a Shish Mahal (Mirror room). Elephant ride happens here.

 

City Palace Complex

In the heart of city, near Hawa Mahal, this has the museum and Jantar Mantar -  the astronomical observatory.

Most famous of all Jaipur monuments, this was built for viewing of royal and religious processions in privacy by the royal ladies.

 

 

Shopping:

Jaipur is shopper's delight. Textiles, gems, jewellery, handicrafts, antiques, foot wear, garments. A perfect place for retail therapy.

 

Pushkar

Pushkar

Pushkar came into existence when Lord Brahma, the Creator, to kill a demon dropped his lotus flower to earth from his hand. 3 blue lakes magically manifested in the middle of desert at the place where the petals had landed. It was here, at the banks of these lakes, Brahma held a congregation of 90,000 celestial beings.

The lake surrounded by many temples, most of them white washed, is one of the most sacred sites for Hindus. Pilgrims come from everywhere during the full moon phase of Nov month with the belief that their impurities shall be washed away.

Pushkar is also famous for its annual camel fair, which occurs during the auspicious month of Nov. Camel races happen,aggressively supported by gamblers.

The priests here are aggressive to perform rituals, sometimes asking too much money. Be on guard for this.

During British rule crocodiles used to be found in the lake. The British shifted them to a nearby reservoir though not many are found there.

Camel fair time can be overwhelming as it attracts a huge number of tourists. Eventhough Pushkar has gone commercial, still the spontaniety of meeting the locals can be very fulfilling.

There are more than five hundred temples in Pushkar but the pride of the town is its Brahma's temple. Brahma has only one temple in the whole world dedicated to him and it is at Pushkar.

For the uninitiated, Brahma is the part of the Hindu trinity of Gods: Brahma (the Creator), Vishnu (the Sustainer), Shiva (the

 Destroyer).

Udaipur

The valley of Oodipur, the most diversified and most  romantic spot on the continent of India - Col. James Tod, Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan (1829)

 

Famous as city of lakes, Udaipur's setting amongst the rolling hills is beautiful. The uncertain monsoon, the rising

 population has taken a toll on the ciy. More often than not, the lakes are not full. A new canal promises to take care of this.

It is a place to relax, soak in. Especially as it comes in the middle of most Rajasthan tour itineraries. 

Udaipur, founded in 1559, used to be the capital of the former kingdom of Mewar in Rajasthan. Legend is that the then ruling king Udai Singh II came upon a hermit who assured  the king that if he builds his capital at the spot, his capital will never be won over. Those were the times when Mughals were very powerful. History says that Udaipur has remain undefeated.

Called as Venice of the East, it has many Rajput palaces now converted to luxury hotels.

The most famous of them is the Lake Palace Hotel which occupies a whole island in the lake Pichola.

Maharana Fatah Singh of Udaipur was the only royalty who did not attend the Delhi Durbar for King George V in 1911. This fierce sense of independence earned Udaipur the highest gun salute in Rajasthan, 19 against the 17 each of Jaipur,

 Jodhpur, Bundi, Bikaner, Kota and Karauli.

City Palace, Udaipur

Situated on the east side of Lake Pichola, it is a collection of palaces built at different times from 1559. From the palace a panoramic view of the "Jag Niwas" (the Lake Palace Hotel) along with lovely view of Jag Mandir on one side and the city of Udaipur on the other.

Once you walk through the triple-arched gate - the Tripolia, built in 1725 your way shall now lead to a series of courtyards, overlapping parations, terraces, corridors and gardens.

 

Lake Palace

Built in 1743-1746, this palace is made of marble and is situated on Jag Niwas island in Lake Pichola. Built as a royal summer palace, it is now a famous luxury hotel. Octupussy (James Bond) was shot here.

 

Jag Mandir

Jag Mandir, which now has a restaurant, is another island in Lake Pichola which is known for its garden courtyard. Shah Jahan took refuge here while revolting against his father. 

 

Monsoon Palace

Monsoon Palace also known as Sajjan Garh Palace is the summer resort of the royalty atop the hill overlooking all of the lakes. This palace had a way to collect rain water for consumption all year around. Even in the blistering mid-day sun of June, the draught is very cool and pleasant. Amazing!

 

Jagdish Temple

Built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh, it is a very big temple in the middle of Udaipur. It showcases interesting architecture and is located in the main touristy areas.

 

Fateh Sagar Lake

Fateh Sagar Lake is situated in the north of Lake Picholas and was expanded after heavy rains that caused much damage.

 

Lake Pichola

Lake Pichola is the main lake. It has many bathing and washing ghats. There are two islands in there - Jag Niwas and the Jag Mandir. Originally built by Maharana Udai Singh II, its today's jewel is the Lake Palace Hotel. It is not very deep lake and can get to be dry if monsoon fails.

 

Saheliyon-ki-Bari

Sahelion ki Bari is a garden that was constructed fora group of forty-eight young women attendants who

 accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. Set below Fatah Sagar Lake, the garden has pavillions, fountains and lotus pools. 

 

Gulab Bagh and Zoo

A rose garden near the palace on the east side of Lake Pichhola. It has a library which has a collection of ancient handwritten manuscripts and books. A famous arya samaj book, Satyarth Prakash has some of its part written here. Here in the garden, there is a zoo with tigers, leopards, Chinkara gazelle, birds, and many wild animals. Plus a mini train track which kids can enjoy as it runs through most part of the garden.

 

Doodh Talai

Take the rope way from Karni Mata temple to one of the gardens in Doodh Talai. This is a rock and fountain garden. At sunset you get panoramic views of Lake Pichhola and the old city.

 

Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal

A museum of folk arts which has an auditorium hosting puppet shows.

 

Ahar Museum

Here is a cluster of cenotaphs of the Maharanas of Mewar. 

 

Shilpgram

A crafts village near Udaipur and hosts an annual crafts fair which is one of the biggest in India.

 

Neemach Mata Temple

A temple on a green hill in the Dewali area of Udaipur. 

 

Udaipur Solar Observatory

Asia's only solar observatory, it is situated in the middle of the Lake Fatah Sagar.

 

Sukhadia Circle

A large roundabout in Udaipur, this is a popular recreational centre and meeting place for the locals.

Jodhpur

Jodhpur

Jodhpur, founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha and named after him, a chief of the Rathore clan, is the second largest city in

 Rajasthan after Jaipur. A popular tourist destination it has many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar desert.

It's skyline is dominated by Mehrangahr Fort. Around the fort are blue painted houses giving the city the name of Blue City. Jodhpur is called the Sun City for its all year round bright and sunny weather.

As Jodhpur is in the approx. center of Rajasthan, it forms a part of most Rajasthan itineraries. A 10 km long thick stone wall surrounds the old Jodhpur city and has 8 gates leading out of it.

 

Jodhpur city has many beautiful palaces and forts such as Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, Umaid Bhavan Palace and Rai ka Bag Palace. Other charms of Jodhpur include Government museum and it's beautiful Umed garden.

 

Jodhpur has supplied many generals to the Mughals. Jodhpur was a fief under the Mughal Empire. Jodhpur is now a major handicrafts industry centre. Furniture is the main product.

 

Jodhpur has contributed immensely to the Indian cuisine. For example the Makhaniya Lassi, Mawa Kachori, Pyaaj Kachori, Hot & Spicy Mirchibada (chaudhary ka mirchi bada)(A preparation made with potato, onion, chilli and gramflour), Dal Bati Churma, Panchkuta, Lapsi (a special kind of dessert made with wheat, Jaggery, and ghee), Kachar mircha curry (made with chilli and kachar, a special type of vegetable grown in desert area) and Kadhi (made with gramflour, curd and chilli) with Baajre ka sogra. Jodhpur is known for its sweets ranging from traditional "Makhanbada" to Bengali "Roshogollas".,"Ras madhuri"

 

It is also a major education hub.

Bikaner

Bikaner

Formerly a princely state, Bikaner was founded in 1486 by Rao Bika. Bikaner. It is the 4th largest city in Rajasthan. Water from 2 canals, the Ganga Canal completed in 1928 and the Indira Gandhi Canal completed in 1987 have allowed the farming of crops such as mustard, cotton, groundnuts, wheat and vegetables. 

Bikaner is famous for sweets and snacks (or namkeens in Hindi).

 

Before the mid 15th century, the whole area was a barren arid wilderness called Jangladesh. The founder Rao Bika who was the second son of Maharaja Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur realising that  he shall never inherit Jodhpur kingdom decided to make his own kingdom in this wilderness.

 

The points in its favour were supply of spring water and also it being a stopover on the trade route between Gujarat coast and Central Asia eventhough it is in the Thar desert.

 

The fort that Bika built in 1478 is in ruins now but the Junagarh fort built 100 laters a little distance away is a magnificient property. 

 

The sixth ruler of Bikaner Rai Singhji (1571-1611) accepted the suzerainty of the Mughals and became an army general in the court of Emperor Akbar and of his son Emperor Jahangir. Bikaner flourished during these times. Rai Singhji won many rewards and accolades from the Mughal emperors for his successful military exploits helping them win half of Mewar kingdom.

 

He was given revenue generating lands of Gujarat and Burhanpur. From this large revenue, Junagarh fort was built. As he was knowledgeable about arts and architecture which had been enhanced by his travels, he used them in the construction of Junagarh Fort. 

 

Karan Mahal palace was built by Karan Singh who ruled from 1631 to 1639. Later rulers added more floors and decorations to this Mahal. Subsequent rulers kept on making additions in the palace.

 

Ganga Singh built Lalgarh palace, now a heritage hotel and also residence of the Royal family. Ganga Singh was a favourite of the British Raj. He earned the title of Knight Commander of the Star of India, served as a member of the Imperial War Cabinet, represented India at the Imperial (First World War Conferences) and the British Empire at the Versailles Peace Conference.

 

Bikaner is famous for:

PATA culture ( Wooden made big square size table which is laid upon the streets where localites sit at their leisure )

Bikaner is also known for its handicrafts and leather articles, for its palaces and for having Asia's biggest camel farm.

 

In Bikaner you will spot intricately carved Jharokas or red sandstone stone jalis (screens) installed on the windows of the Junagarh fort, temples and havelis (mansions). They are useful both for for ventilation and for the house ladies to world from behind a screen. A nearby village of Dulemra does the bulk of manufacture.

This fair is known for the utmost celebration by hindu casts Ojha , Bhadani, chhangani and derasri. 

 

Camel festival

Each January the state government organises a 2 day long camel festival with camel races, various cultural events and a fire dance performed by the Sidh people. Procession of camels adorned with Rajasthani attire emanate from the Junagarh fort. Camel dance performances also take place. Competitions take place for the best decorated camel, fur cutting design, camel milking and the best camel hair cut

 

Aksaye Tritya or "AKKHA TEEJ"

The foundation day of Bikaner. Locals enjoy themselves by flying kites or "CHANDA". They also enjoy a special meal, such as "Khichra and Imlani".

 

Paryushan

The biggest festival of Jain community is celebrated with utmost fervour and dedication. The temples are lavishly decorated.

 

Kartik Poornima

The Jain community takes out a huge procession on this day consisting of paintings, palki of tirthankar and musical bands. This festivity is unparalleled in India.

Laxmi Niwas Palace

The magnificent structure in red sandstone was designed by the British architect, Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob in the year 1902. The style of architecture is Indo-Saracenic. It is now a luxury hotel.  It is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Bikaner.

 

Lalgarh Palace

A red sandstone building with several grand halls, lounges, cupolas and pavilions. The building features magnificent pillars, elaborate fireplaces, Italian colonnades and intricate latticework and filigree work. The palace houses the Shri Sadul Museum as well as a large and important collection of Sanskrit manuscripts, the Anup Sanskrit Library.

 

Moolnayakji

Constructed in 1486, Moolnayakji was the first Vaishnav Temple built in Bikaner.

Laxmi Nath Temple is one of the oldest temples in Bikaner. 

 

Bhandasar Jain Temple

Dedicated to 5th Tithankar Lord Sumatinath, this temple is the most beautiful amongst the the 27 beautiful Jain Temples that adorn Bikaner city. Highest amongst the Jain temples, the foundation of this temple was filled by pure ghee and dry coconuts. This temple is famous for its wall paintings and usta art.

 

Kolayat

 Dedicated to sage Kapila who, according to his devotees, sat in meditation near the lake, this is popular pilgrimage spot. One week before Pushkar Festival and till one week later this lake is more interesting if you like to see Sadhus. Pushkar will have some Sadhus but Kolayat will have many hundreds.

 

Karni Mata Temple

The famous rat temple. Try to spot the white rat.

 

Shiv Bari Temple

A temple surrounded by a wall with battlements. Has 2 water reservoirs locally called bawaris. It has a four faced black marble statue of Shiva and a bronze Nandi facing the Shiva Lingam.

Nawalgarh and around sightseeing. The beautiful Havelis, wall paintings. Soak in them, delight in them. Founded in the 18th Century by Nawal Singh, it has some of the finest frescos in the Shekhawati region. A huge fort with colourful bazaar and numerous havelis with elaborate architecture makes it an interesting destination. Nawalgarh is rightly referred to as the Open Air Gallery.

There is art all around. Nawalgarh is renowned all over the world for its exquisitely painted havelis that are beautifully designed and carved. The havelis are the mansions that boast of the beautifully carved wooden gates and the painted walls. The ornate iron and brass fittings revealed the affluence of the owner of the haveli. The marvelous murals have been painted on both the sides of the walls. The paintings were 

further decorated with small pieces of mirror, gold and silver leaves.

The religious nature of the people is revealed in the paintings that revolve around the themes for the life and times of Lord Krishna. In fact there are a range of topics that get covered on the walls of the havelis at Nawalgarh.

The list of must visit havelis at Nawalgarh comprises of the Anandilal Poddar Haveli, the Jodhraj Patodia Haveli, Bansidar Bhagat Haveli, Chokhani Haveli, the Aath (eight) Haveli complex, Chhawchhariya Haveli, Murarka Haveli, Hem Raj Kulwal Haveli, Bhagton Ki Haveli, and Khedwal Bhavan. The traders and merchants constructed most of the havelis in the 18th century and the early 19th century. The business of silk and opium brought in a lot of wealth to
