Chittorgarh and Bundi are located in the fertile most part of Rajasthan. Both Chittorgarh and Bundi have impressive forts. After the Mogul monuments in Delhi and Agra, these forts have a different tale to tell.

Between Delhi and Agra, you will get to visit monuments of great splendour built by the moguls. Depending upon your arrival time in Delhi, it is possible that you can visit the three main sights of Delhi and they are, the old Delhi, the Humayun’s tomb and the Qutub Minar.

Agra is where you meet the Taj Mahal, the majestic white splendour of mourning love. As you stay the night in Agra, you shall visit the Taj Mahal in the morning at sunrise. After Taj Mahal you can visit Agra Fort and then onwards to Bundi.

It is a long drive, but through a lot of green areas.

Bundi is a small walled city and has remained elusive to the embrace of modernism.

The Bundi Palace has an excellent collection of murals and is a must visit. The town of Bundi is chock-a-block with Havelis in various states of disrepair.

Chittorgarh has an impressive fort and looks pretty solid though it succumbed thrice to the Muslim invaders. Each time, the women of Chittorgarh instead of submitting to the invaders preferred to commit mass suicide by jumping into fire, also known as Jauhar. More about Chittorgarh Fort. Chittorgarh travel shows you this.

Udaipur is the city of Lakes and made very famous by the James Bond movie Octopussy. Udaipur was established by the rulers of Chittorgarh after Chittorgarh Fort fell for the third time.

Udaipur has many palaces and we recommend that you visit the city Palace and the monsoon Palace. The bazaars of Udaipur are quaint and a stroll through them brings in much delight.

Mount Abu is the hill station of Rajasthan. About 3 1/2 thousand feet high, this is a popular destination for honeymooners and tourists from Gujarat. As you can make out, the local commerce is focused on to these Indians rather than the foreigners. It is a delightful change to be a spectator to the shy couples and boisterous families. It is also famous for the Jain temples and has a lake as well.

There are other monuments in Agra, but as the drive to whom the Bundi is ahead, it shall be your decision to see them or not. We recommend driving to Bundi.

Either have lunch on the way or if you leave around lunch hour from Agra, then consider having lunch in Agra itself.

Day 3

Udaipur

Bundi first half day sightseeing

The Bundi Palace and Taragarh Fort are the two main attractions. Bundi Palace has beautiful impressive detailed murals, even though they are fading. In the darker stairwells of Bundi Palace, bats have made their home.

Bundi Palace complex has many palaces within and was built in the early 17th century. It also has the finest step wells in Rajasthan.

Taragarh Fort is a sprawling Fort on hilltop and overlooks the Palace and the lake. Many ruins, relics, step Wells and temples have been built within this complex. Much lesser tourists here compared to Bundi Palace. On the steep uphill way to the Taragarh fort you will spot any monkeys. You will also spot many step Wells and ruins on the way. The fort was built to defend, therefore has only one entrance. The design was such so as to have the only source of water inside the fort. This made the attackers of the fort explore the surroundings for water, thus making them vulnerable for hit and run attacks. The moguls were the prominent recipient of this guerrilla war treatment.

Tickets are both these monuments are sold at the same booth.

From Taragarh fort city of Bundi looks like a blue city. Bundi is also known as the city of step Wells. The step wells or "Baoris" as they are locally called our rare examples of architecture and sculpture.

Early lunch can be had amongst the many restaurants in the lane opposite the Bundi Palace.

Chittorgarh second half day sight seeing.

Chittorgarh tourist places.

Chittorgarh Fort is vastly spread out over 600 acres and is the largest Fort in Asia. One needs a vehicle to see all of it.

The fort is famous for the mass suicide that the women committed three times as an honourable way out, rather than submit to the victorious Muslim forces.

Called Jauhar, the women donned their wedding saris, left their handprints on the wall and then jumped into the fire. After this, the men wearing orange turbans used to rush out of the fort, attacking the enemy and finally on to their death. The fort complex has many ruins, many palaces and you will be told the story of Princess Padmini.
