August 11 - 21
It is a parade to celebrate the arrival of the Buddha's tooth in the fifth century BC on the island. The tooth was smuggled in the hair of an Orissan Princess disguised as a Brahmin priest. The then King was so happy with this possession that he had it paraded through the city, for citizens to view it. Street processions happen with people attired in colourful costumes. The most energetic parade happens on the last night.
