Package Overview

Important Note:

Taj Mahal is closed on Friday.

Golden triangle tourism of Delhi Agra Jaipur circuit is about thousand kilometres in travel.

Briefly:

  • Drive from Delhi to Agra. Early morning departure recommended.
  • Visit Agra Fort, Itmad-ud-Daula, Mehtab Bagh and Taj Mahal at sunset on day one itself.
  • Night stay in Agra.
  • Next morning drive to Jaipur via the Fatehpur Sikri.
  • In Jaipur, visit city Palace and Amber Fort.
  • After Amber Fort, drive back to Delhi, reaching Delhi late night.

This tour is brilliant if you only have Thursday and Friday available for vacation. Taj Mahal is closed on Friday, hence, Agra sightseeing is done on Thursday itself and Jaipur sightseeing on Friday. Sunset viewing of Taj Mahal is possible.

The immortal Taj Mahal was given to Agra and the world by Shah Jahan, the Mogul emperor. Taj Mahal was born out of the Emperor's greatest tragedy of his life, that is that of his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal at childbirth. She was 39 and as was her wont, at the time of her death, she was with the Emperor on a military campaign. After her death, the Emperor lost interest in the State affairs, became promiscuous, allowed is here to turn grey, permitted his sons and advisers to govern his empire and devoted his time and overflowing rich Treasury to his passion of architecture. For the first time marble was chosen as the main building material instead of red stone. More on Taj Mahal Story

Agra Fort was built by Akbar using red stone.

Fatehpur Sikri, which you will visit on the way to Jaipur, was built in the honour of Salim Chishty by Akbar using red stone.

Salim Chishty, the Sufi mystic, was highly revered and wishes granted by him would always come true. This brought Akbar to the saint with the wish of having an heir to his throne. The wish was granted and a grateful Emperor father built this red stone marvel as a tribute. Today, the faithful throng the architecturally acclaimed shrine, which is located in the mosque complex of Fatehpur Sikri, making a wish, then tying a thread on any one of the marble lattice screens. Custom is that after a wish fulfilment, one revisits the shrine and unties any string from the lattice screen. The recent famous visitor seeking wish fulfilment for a son was Carla Bruni, accompanying her husband, the French President Sarkozy on a state visit to India. Devotional mesmerising music, called Qawwali is regularly sung here.

Live Qawwali performance at the shrine, but intricacies of Qawwali explained first.

Fatehpur Sikri was abandoned by its citizens due to lack of water and not due to defeat or death.

Jaipur is a perfectly planned city and even today it never ceases to amaze. The uniformity of the shops to the length and breadth of the streets, strategic placing of homes to avoid the hot summer sun, but allowing sufficient sunlight and air, sewage system, Wells and blocks allocated to specific trades.

Before Jaipur, it was Amber Fort, which was the seat of power. Established in the 11th century, it was only in the 16th century, it rose to prominence through strategic marriage and political alliances with the Mogul dynasty. The famous Maharaja Man Singh was the commander in chief of Akbar's army as well as the responsibility of being the governor of Bengal had been bestowed unto him earlier.

Day 1

Agra

Leave Delhi for Agra.

The driver picks you up at 6 AM. About 240 km drive when measured from Central Delhi. 4 hours approximately. It shall be an interesting drive for India's first timers. You will spot variety of animals interdispersed amongst the human population - camels, oxen, cows, monkeys and maybe the "dancing bears" with their owners on the side of the road.

The highway condition is very good and is a six lanes road. Have your breakfast on the way, many roadside restaurants, even McDonald's.

Local Agra guide meets you when you reach Agra. Approximate time of your arrival in Agra is 10 AM.

Day 2

Last Day of Tour

This is your last day of your tour.

Agra to Jaipur Drive

After early morning breakfast, leave for Jaipur-the pink city. As you will pass through rural areas, it shall take about five hours for the 250 km.

On the way to Jaipur, about 43 km away from Agra, is the splendid city of Fatehpur Sikri. This now deserted magnificent red stone complex was built by Akbar as a gratitude to the Sufi mystic Salim Chishty when his prediction that Akbar shall have an heir to his throne materialised.

Akbar was a visionary secular Emperor and realised very well that the success of his empire lies in by taking all religious groups together. Hence, in Fatehpur Sikri, along with a beautiful mosque are three different palaces for each of his favourite wives. A Muslim, a Hindu and a Christian.

After viewing Fatehpur Sikri, the journey continues onwards to Jaipur. Our Jaipur guide shall meet you there.

Jaipur sightseeing coming straight from Agra

First on list is City Palace.

Jaipur plan is laid on a nine blocks pattern grid. City Palace complex straddles two of these blocks. Within the City Palace complex there are many buildings, courtyards, the private residence of the current maharaja, a museum with a rare artefacts and gardens. City Palace is a fine example of the amalgamation of more cool and Rajput style of architecture.

The remaining blocks were distributed between the courtiers residence, the Chiefs of State's divisions, Hindu and Jain businessmen, artists and merchants, temples and Havelis built by royalty. Considered to be auspicious, the walled city of Jaipur had seven major gates.

Next, outside city Palace, visit the astronomical Observatory Jantar Mantar. These odd structures are fairly accurate astronomical instruments built by Jai Singh, the one who built Jaipur.

Next proceed to Amber Fort, at first two short halts at Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal for photo-op's. Hawa Mahal is from where Royal ladies discreetly watched the street life; Jal Mahal is the water Palace. Both are for photography and not for visiting inside.

Amber Fort is stunning mediaeval fort with distinctive Rajput style exhibiting Mogul influence in its later years. Jaipur was conceived as Amber Fort and city of Amer ran out of space. Established in 11th century, over the centuries gradually, the Fort had many structures added to it. An important focal point of the complex is the temple dedicated to the patron goddess of the ruling family, where till as recent as 1980, a goat was slaughtered here daily as a sacrifice.

Jaipur Delhi evening drive.

Around 5 PM leave Jaipur for Delhi. About 275 km or between 5 to 6 hours. The road quality is good and there are many restaurants on the way, where you can have your dinner. Midway, a facility run by Rajasthan government is exactly located at midway.

Just before Delhi comes is Gurgaon, the modern India IT commercial hub. Shopping malls and many outstanding restaurants within.
You can have dinner here as well. You are dropped in Delhi, wherever it was agreed to.
