Mysore has a rich historical and cultural legacy as it was the earlier capital of the state. From the tourist perspective, it has gardens, water falls, temples, Royal buildings, amusement parks and museums. Also called as "City of Palaces", these palaces are a fine example of the Dravidian architecture and indicative of the luxurious lifestyles of the Kings.
The Mysore zoo, set up in 1892, is the oldest zoo in the country. Another not to be missed sight is the Philomena Church with its 175 feet high spires. A 3rd century relic of St Philomena lies below the main altar, in the catacomb.
